“I joined the Heartland Hearing & Balance team in March 2017.  I have worked as an administrator in hearing clinics for many years now, both in the Manawatu and Bay of Plenty.  Sam, Andrea and myself have known each other for many years.”

“I will be the friendly voice on the other end of the phone, and will also be attending to the incoming enquiries on our office email.  Apart from my adminstrative role, I am also able to help with hearing aid service and repairs.

I reside in Feilding with my husband Matt.  We enjoy being part of a rural community, having family, children and grandchildren living nearby."

Andrea Hopkins

“I am originally from the Philippines, and before Audiology I studied Psychology at one of the most prestigious Universities in the country - the 400 year old University of Santo Tomas.  After Psychology I moved into Audiology and never regretted it!  After graduating with my Masters in Audiology, I took part in a nationwide project investigating the prevalence of hearing loss.  During this time I was also involved in educating community groups about hearing care.”

"I moved to New Zealand in 2006 to work at Palmerston North Hospital, as an Audiologist in Paediatrics.  After 3 years in the public health sector, I moved to private practice to concentrate more on adults with hearing loss.  During this time I’ve built up an excellent reputation for service, and in recognition was promoted to Charge Clinician in 2014.  I’ve been a Full Member of NZAS since 2007, and have been involved in their Membership and Supervision Subcommittee since 2014.”

“As well as seeing adults at Heartland Hearing & Balance in Feilding, I also see babies and young children at Palmerston North Hospital."

“When I’m not working, I’m a mother to a gorgeous young boy who’s currently nuts over trains, and a lucky wife to an amazing man who is a Director of a local software company.  I also enjoy baking and the performing arts.  I am the lead dance and teacher/choreographer of Aziza Bellydance - look out for us!  We are a local Arabic-inspired-Bellydance-troupe."

Sam Veale

"I grew up in Palmerston North, the second youngest of six boys (phew!).  When I left school, I spent a year at Massey University studying Science, but then changed tack and completed a Bachelor of Music at Victoria University of Wellington.  This was a very special time, during which I met my beautiful wife, Jennifer Moss.  I was a French Horn player, and she was an opera singer."

"After 16 years as a professional musician in Sydney and Auckland, I developed not only a hearing loss, but also a personal interest in the long term effects of noise in the workplace.  I also became very interested in finding somewhere quiet to work...  This led me to study for my Master of Audiology degree at The University of Auckland, in 2002.  Thanks to Peter Thorne and Sharon Mein-Smith for accepting me into the course.  Following the start of my audiological career in 2004 at Palmerston North Hospital, I also completed a Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University (US) in the 3 years from 2007-2009.”

"I’ve previously worked at Palmerston North Hospital, and other private providers in Palmerston North, Whanganui, Masterton, and Levin.  As well as Heartland Hearing & Balance, I also see babies and young people for Auditory Brainstem Response testing (ABR), at Palmerston North and Whanganui Hospitals.”

In my other lives I am a keen fisherman/scuba diver, a Private Pilot Licence holder, and also hold a black belt in ITF Taekwon-Do.  I live in Palmerston North with my wife, 2 dogs and 3 cats, and am very proud of my two adult sons.  My wife, Jennifer Moss, is one of Palmerston North’s creative giants, and we make music together in several different groups.  We also run an exiting new venue in Palmerston North called Shed 23: Music. Comedy. Private Hires. Rehearsal Space. Gigs. Nurtured Learning. Theatre. Jennifer Moss Music. Places to Create. Dance. Energy.
