Sam Veale

"I grew up in Palmerston North, the second youngest of six boys (phew!).  When I left school, I spent a year at Massey University studying Science, but then changed tack and completed a Bachelor of Music at Victoria University of Wellington.  This was a very special time, during which I met my beautiful wife, Jennifer Moss.  I was a French Horn player, and she was an opera singer."

"After 16 years as a professional musician in Sydney and Auckland, I developed not only a hearing loss, but also a personal interest in the long term effects of noise in the workplace.  I also became very interested in finding somewhere quiet to work...  This led me to study for my Master of Audiology degree at The University of Auckland, in 2002.  Thanks to Peter Thorne and Sharon Mein-Smith for accepting me into the course.  Following the start of my audiological career in 2004 at Palmerston North Hospital, I also completed a Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University (US) in the 3 years from 2007-2009.”

"I’ve previously worked at Palmerston North Hospital, and other private providers in Palmerston North, Whanganui, Masterton, and Levin.  As well as Heartland Audiology, I also see babies and young people at both Whanganui and Palmerston North Hospitals.”

In my other lives I am a keen fisherman and scuba diver, and hold a black belt in ITF Taekwon-Do.  I live in Palmerston North with my wife, 2 dogs and 3 cats, and am very proud of my two adult sons.  My wife, Jennifer Moss, is one of Palmerston North’s creative giants, and we make music together in several bands.  Our latest musical project is Akuma Adventures - interactive drum and dance tours to Ghana, West Africa.  We have recently returned from our first successful tour - check out the Akuma Adventures web site for further information, and dates of the next tour!
