Most people will be able to access at least some government funding towards hearing aids. Heartland Hearing & Balance can help determine whether you are eligible for any of the following:
- Government Subsidy Scheme administered through Enable NZ. This is currently set at $1022.22 per pair of hearing aids ($511.11 each). It is available for ALL NZ residents (who do not qualify for other funding), once every six years per ear.
- Government Funding Scheme administered through Enable NZ. This provides substantial funding for hearing aids, and is available for any NZ resident fitting certain strict criteria. For example: severe hearing loss since childhood; working 30 hours per week AND having a Community Services Card; significant other disability such as blindness; sudden and severe hearing loss as an adult.
- ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) provides substantial funding for hearing aids, under THREE specific criteria: Work-Related Noise Induced Hearing Loss; Acoustic or Physical Trauma; Medical Misadventure.
- Veterans’ Affairs NZ (War Pension Services) may provide funding for hearing aids for NZ Veterans who have performed active service overseas, and who qualify for a War Pension.
- Ministry of Social Development (formerly WINZ) can sometimes provide grants or interest-free loans to people, to help them with medical issues such as hearing loss.
